Astronaut Scott Joseph Kelly and his identical twin brother Mark (also served as an astronaut) were born on February 21, 1964 in Patricia and Richard Kelly. Their father is a police officer in Orange City, New Jersey. The twins went to school in nearby Mountain High and graduated in 1982. During high school, Scott trained and served as an emergency medical technician. From there, Scott went to college at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. In his memoirs “Endurance: My Year of Space” and “Lifelong Discovery,” Kelly wrote that his early college life was difficult and he lacked a direction to learn. He admitted that his high school grades were poor and his SAT scores were not impressive. He is not sure how to deal with himself. Then he picked up a copy of Tom Wolfe’s The Right Stuff, and the text he read left a deep impression on him. “I think I found my call,” he wrote during his life. “I want to be a naval pilot… The right thing gives me the outline of my life plan.” To achieve this plan, Scott transferred to the New York Maritime Academy, where his twin brother Mark has been on The university is over. He graduated in 1987 with a degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee. As an officer of the US Navy, Kelly attended a flight school in Pensacola, Florida, and later flew to various workplaces. In 1993, he attended the Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent, Virginia, and accumulated more than 8,000 hours of flight time in his career, on dozens of different aircraft landing on land and aircraft carriers.
